15 Day Aromantic Challenge: Day 2

Describe your best friendship(s).

I’ve sadly fallen out of touch with most of my good friends. I realize it was mostly my own fault, but at the same time it couldn’t be helped. After I graduated college I couldn’t get a job. I had the degree, but no one was hiring unless you had 3 or more years of experience in the field. I was working part-time at a retail store at the time and quickly realized that I wouldn’t be able to pay off my school loans on that alone. Paying off my school loans became my number one priority and everything else, including my friends, got put on hold for almost two years. I traveled around the country doing manual labor and many unpleasant temp jobs, but at the end I was able to pay off my debts and return home. However, during that time the damage was done and I had lost touch with most of my friends.

I’ve known my closest circle of friends since middle school. There were four of us, we had several interest in common or at least over lapping. I thought it was kind of poetic that we complemented each other in may ways. For example each of us was born in a different season. Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter. I never had to actually go out and make friends on my own because I had my small circle and when we went to high school they were the ones who brought in other people to our group. Now that I’m mostly on my own, I haven’t the first clue how to go about making friends. I’m kind of left sitting there thinking, “Who the hell has time for this???” but I have hope for the future once I get my own life together I can make the time.
